Ashtakoota splits compatibility into eight separately scored parts that do not compensate for each other — a perfect score in one will not cover for another. The method has been used in India for centuries, and what it reads is how two temperaments sit together —it predicts no ending and passes no judgement。

Birth time is optional.The eight kootas read only where the Moon sits, which barely moves over a day — so this works without knowing what hour they were born. If you do know it, the section on each person's own chart gets sharper.

How it is calculated

This uses Ashtakoota: eight items scored separately, adding up to 36. They are not equally weighted — the lightest, temperament, is worth one point; the heaviest, emotional grounding, is worth eight. So a high total can be carried by two or three heavy items while a light one quietly fails.

All eight read only where each Moon sits — which sign, which nakshatra. That is why no birth time is needed: two birth dates are enough. The same two dates always produce the same score.

Scores fall in four bands: above 28 is a strong match, above 21 is good, above 15 needs work, below that means real differences. But the total is not the whole story — the report also flags which individual kootas came in low, however high the sum.

Common questions

Can I do this without knowing their birth time?

Yes. All eight kootas read the Moon only, and the birth time changes none of the scores. The time field in the form is optional.

Does a low score mean we should not be together?

No. The report puts it this way for the low band: plenty of long relationships score badly, and hold because both people know where the differences are and are willing to give ground. The score tells you where the work is, not whether to do it.

Why does a high total still come with warnings?

Because the eight are not equally weighted, so a total can be lifted by a few heavy items. One real pair scored 22.5 — rated "good" — while temperament, instinctive fit and mental outlook all came in at zero.

Is this the same as Western synastry?

No. Western synastry reads aspects between two whole charts — many factors, all influencing each other. Ashtakoota scores eight items separately with no compensation between them, which is why it can name the specific place you will get stuck.
